We just got back to LA from a short ski trip to Salt Lake City.  The flight cost $130, which was a pretty good fair.  However, my wife and I packed two large suitcases along with skiis and a “boot bag” for ski boots.  Delta charged us $15 for each of our first bags, $25 for each of our second bags (the boots), and an even higher fee for the ski bag.  Then they hit us with overage charges because our suitcases were over 50 pounds (you need some warm clothes for a ski trip) and the total “extra” costs were $240.  This essentially doubled the cost of the flight.

Is there any reason a sane person wouldn’t take Southwest Airlines, pay the same ticket price, and avoid luggage fees altogether?  Every person I spoke with on that flight was outraged at the cost of checking luggage (all had skis and boots) and swore they would never fly Delta again.  Can this company possibly survive after pissing off the entire flying public?
