I drove my cousin who is in the US ARMY to Oklahoma City in his car. He is stationed there and is leaving for Iraq in 2 weeks. Sunday I was to fly home. I got to the airport at 11am and checked in. My flight wasn’t till 1:45pm. I go to the counter to check my luggage and they inform me that I cant check my luggage its already full. Of course I cant carry this on the plane, I had a knife in there and other things. I was so mad. Luckily my cousin was still with me. I gave him all my stuff and he said he would go to UPS and mail it all to me. I was livid at this time. So I get thru security and back to the gate where I am supposed to be. I still had 2 hours till my flight. Then they call my name and I walk up to the counter and they inform me that they over booked the flight and that my name was “randomly” chosen to be bumped. I had already had a bad enough day saying goodbye to my cousin whom I might never see again with him going to Iraq. I was MAD. I asked her if she could ask for volunteers first or something. And she said NO it was a done deal. So I ask when the next flight is and its at 5:45pm that afternoon. So here I am stuck in an airport for the next 6 hours. She gives me a meal voucher for $7.00 to buy lunch. I informed the lady that you couldn’t buy a bottle of water with $7.00 much less a meal. So I just go outside the airport and call my cousin and make him bring me my stuff back because I was allowed to check my luggage at this point. I get on that flight. But when I get to Atlanta its a whole other story. That flight is over booked also. I had a 3 hour layover in Atlanta so the whole time I am sitting there wondering if I am gonna get on that flight. Technically I am flying standby because of what happened at the other airport. Thankfully there were some people who volunteered to not take that flight and take a later one. So needless to say I was supposed to be home at 5:30pm on Sunday and I didnt get home till 11:50pm. Or thats at least when the plane landed. I didnt get to my house till 3:30am it took them an hour to get the luggage off the plane and into the baggage claim. So I am on the phone with Delta to see what they can do for me.
