Okay, first let me start out by stating that I work for a law enforcement agency, not an airline. Nobody I personally know works for an airline or an airport. That being said:

I know that their fees are outragous and you get treated like garbage by their employees.
I use AirTran when I can because their unaccompanied minor fee is about $50. I don't have to worry about if my son will be ignored when we use that airline. If he has a layover, they take him to the "unaccompanied minor area" in the airport. An area set up for the kids to play. He is the first on and the first off of the airplane. They are very careful checking the identification prior to releasing the children. The stewards pay extra attention to the children.
My son said that the Delta employees hardly looked at him.

Yes, Delta sucks at the unaccompanied minor department. After paying almost $400 for a ticket you are hit with $200 unaccompanied minor fees round-trip and now you are getting hit with luggage fees on top of that. Thier phone system doesn't work and at least they aren't taking early payment any more, when they required it they couldn't figure that it was already paid and almost kept my daughter from making her flight when her mom told the agent that I had already paid for it. The only decent thing is at least they can transfer planes, many of the other airlines collect $100 each way for a non-stop flight that you put you child on and pick up from the plane at the other end. Grrrr!!!!
