Dumb Delta

I promise that I will never fly with Delta again. I went from Vegas to Memphis and was suppose to go from Memphis to Jacksonville. Memphis to Jax was cancelled…with no explanation as to why (bad weather???). I asked a Delta employee what was going on and her reply was to yell at me and direct me away. Finally get word from a supervisor that we were not going to get a flight until the next morning. They had no other flights to Jacksonville that night so we had to wait more than 12 hours for the next mornings flights. So we searched for a hotel but there was nothing available because so many people’s flights were cancelled (Delta is horrible). We were then forced to leave the main airport (where all the food is located) because…well who knows?! We were given an air matress so we could attempt to sleep with hundreds of strangers and the loud intercom going off every 3 minutes.
No sleep and no food and 12 hours later we could not enter the main airport because Delta had yet to give us new boarding passes. Finally, several hours later we get on a flight that was suppose to head to Atlanta, then to Jacksonville. Please note that at this point we have not been given any vouchers or rebates of any sort…just bad customer service!!
Ok, so, we are on the plane and loaded up…there is trouble…we are not moving. Intercom: “we have a delay, we are going to have do some maintenance for a few minutes because the engine is frozen” Well just great! another delay!! Ok, after this is taken care of we get up and off…but wait!!! Suddenly we feel a jerk and we start to drop. The capatin comes ont he intercom and announces that the plane is on fire and we are making an emergency landing. Thankfully…I mean seriously thankfully we lived and landed safely (I do have to admit the pilot did a great job of staying calm). We get off and are told that they will do a 2 hour maintenance and we would be on our way. So I am like let me get this straight, you are going to put me ont he same plane that just caught fire?! Yes, of course they were going to. 2 hours later…flights cancelled!
Ok, at this point there is no indication of when our new flight time would be so I went to ask the Delta desk what was going on (same woman from last night was there and was rude as ever). So, to avoid dealing with her I asked for a supervisor so I could get straight to the point and find out what was going on. This woman looked at me and yelled: “you need to shut up or I will call the police!!!” (DELTA HAS THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!). I said of course, go ahead…I understand that this woman has had to deal with a lot of people asking similar questions, but to yell and threaten me after only asking to speak to a supervisor…Delta just wants to go out of businesI think because they want everyone to boycot them.
Now, I speak to a supervior with furiosity in my voice and eyes. he told me the best they could do was give me a flight to Atlanta @ 6pm that night, then to Gainesville and then a cab ride to Jacksonville along with 2 food voucers and 100 dollars off my next flight which will never get used because I will never fly with them agian. Also, think about this: $100 off next flight…???WTF?!! That is useless!!! Oh and 2 food voucers to cover 2 whole extra days in the airport…WTF?! Needless to say, DELTA SUCKS!!!!!!! They are honestly the worst airline I have ever experienced and I have flown a lot!

I have been exclusively flying Delta for some time now and I switched to Delta to avoid Northwest – now of course they are the same airline. I suspect that it is the (formerly) Northwest side of the house that is creating the majority of bad service…anyway I would suggest doing the following when anything like this happens:
Try to (calmly) obtain the names of all of the airline employees with whom you interacted (look for name tags)
write a letter detailing your treatment by said employees and send (via email, fax and hardcopy if possible) to the following persons:
CEO of the airline
VP of marketing / customer relations of the airline
Head of the airport authority for the airport at which the incident occurred
Director of the office of travel and tourism for the city in which this occurred
Mayor of the city in which this occurred
Governor of the state in which this occurred
State legislators of the district in which the airport resides
Federal congresspersons of the district in which the airport resides
Federal congresspersons of the district in which YOU reside
Head of the federal congressional committees which oversee / regulate the airline industry
Directors of the FTC, FAA, DOT, and NTSB – especially where you feel the airline is acting without regard to the safety or well being of passengers
If you’ve gone this far you may as well CC it to the President of the United States (i’m serious – what will happen is that the matter will be referred to your congressperson who has already received a letter from you – its more likely to be noticed and taken seriously then)
last but not least – send a copy of the letter to the attorney general of your state, particularly the arm of his/her office that handles consumer affairs
After creating this paper trail, you can consider suing the airline in small claims court in your county in order to recover the cost of your ticket(s). Most likely a representative of the airline will not show up thereby forfeiting the case and you win automatically – CHECK WITH A LAWYER ON THIS to make sure i’ve made an accurate statement.
happier travels

Delta and any domestic airline in US can mess up with any passenger…due to lack of bill of flying passengers rights. You need to support and vote a petition in favor – air passengers rights bill and speak out to congress and senate vs lack of air passengers rights.
European air airlines treat passengers equally and they don’t mess with their passengers. European law is “DO NOT MESS WITH PASSENGERS!”
